Thank you so for much for going in depth for us all! One thing that caught my attention in this was "He does care about her . . . he just really needs her to die." because I never thought Auron pushing Yuna to continue her pilgrimage to die. Rather, I thought he was rushing it because jecht had little time left to influence Sin and that he was pushing for Yuna's faith in Yevon's teachings and subtly encouraging the guardians to find another path: one that he couldn't convince Braska and Jecht to take. Waffles's "death" was inevitable to break the cycle but again, I really didn't read Auron as needing Yuna to die/ Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7532666560771740367.post-38594936490049399032016-09-23T11:16:09.748-04:002016-09-23T11:16:09.748-04:00Really enjoy all of this... but when are you going...Really enjoy all of this... but when are you going to your blog on Yuna and the gang in the Calm Lands? Read all of this and your Guardian story all in one day yesterday. I was super stoked when I saw that was the beginning of Guardian, and I'm super stoked for what you're going to say about it both here and there. :D (And will probably chip in with my own thoughts, because I also have a lot of them.)

And agreed on the hugging. Especially if it involves Kimahri. Kimahri needs hugs. :,) Tiny!Yuna hanging off Kimahri all the time is one of the (many) awesome things about Guardian.behemothblogginghttp://behemothblogging.tumblr.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7532666560771740367.post-79111300617439202852015-01-22T00:34:12.093-05:002015-01-22T00:34:12.093-05:00Yeah I always wondered what was up with that pictu...Yeah I always wondered what was up with that picture. The first time I saw it on the insert that came with the game I thought maybe she was supposed to be crying with happiness, since he's clearly happy about something, but the scene itself is really awkward about it. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. All in all this part of the game could have benefited from more hugging. Waffles should have hugged Yuna in the spring. Lulu, Yuna, and Kimahri should have hugged each other in the Bevelle dungeon. (And, I dunno, uncomfortably high-fived Auron so as not to invade his personal space.)

And wooooo yes Final Aeon Lulu is my absolute favorite of all AU headcanons. (As you may have guessed, since Guardian is structured around exploring the motivations for Lulu's deciding to volunteer.) I'll be talking about it later when the playthrough gets to that part, because I have a LOT to say, but it is very dear to my heart. :)
Mintywolfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03450557499971082731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7532666560771740367.post-5638778780154135882015-01-19T21:41:38.497-05:002015-01-19T21:41:38.497-05:00So good to see a new installment! And so much good...So good to see a new installment! And so much good commentary in here.

This is one of the few times we ever see her smile, and she’s staring death in the face. She can’t go back to Besaid without Yuna, so if this is the end, then so be it. She’d rather die with her than live without her.

Yesssss. Yes yes yes. This is why, in my headcanon where Yuna does perform the Final Summoning, Lulu is her Final Aeon. The mix of determination/courageous facing of death and pain/fear of loss that runs all through their bond is one of the reasons I love their relationship so much, whether it takes a slashy form or not.

And Yuna never loses her faith entirely. She gives up her religion, in defying the structures and teachings of Yevon and becoming a rogue summoner, but she doesn’t give up her faith, which is an important distinction to make.

I liked this.

I'm not sure if it's even possible to say with 100% certainty that she gives up her religion. Her belief in its inerrancy has definitely been shaken, but there are plenty of people out there who are at odds with some of the major teachings of their religion but still consider themselves of that religion (Catholics who support birth control, frex.)

Which is always something that tends to bug me a little in the wider FFX fandom. There's a perception that the story is about totally throwing your religion away because you discovered corruption in it, when really, people in both FFX and real life tend to have a more complex relationship with their religions. Noticing corruption in the church, and opposing that corruption, isn't the same as believing that the religion as a whole should be struck down. You can plenty support the general tenets of your religion while being against the corruption in it.

Also, re: the Waffles and Yuna kiss: THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SAYING IT. My wife and I were commenting recently on how the scene does feel kind of unfortunately skeevy on Tidus' part. We've been playing the HD remaster, and the title screen shows the promotional shot from that scene, and it's on oddly jarring image when you look at it in enough detail. Yuna is weeping openly and looking absolutely brokenhearted, and Tidus... doesn't so much look like he's consoling her so much as he seems to be thinking, "Yeah, I got the girl!"

And just in general, an ungood thing to do when someone is crying their heart out and you don't know them well enough to know if it will cheer them up, or if they want it at all, is to pull them into a kiss. Like you said, a hug would have been a lot better here. Overwhelming an emotionally confused and agitated person ain't cool, Waffles.
behemothblogginghttp://behemothblogging.tumblr.comnoreply@blogger.com
